Charting a Course to Your Career
Forsyth Tech has been working hard on the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), a project that has involved the entire Forsyth Tech community. The QEP is a Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC) requirement and an important part of our re-accreditation process.
Focuses on connecting students to their career goals early in their educational journey so that they can graduate faster!
Frequently Asked Questions
The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is a five-year plan that is designed to enhance student learning in some specific measurable way. It is a requirement of the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC) for institutions to develop a QEP during the reaffirmation process (Core Requirement 7.2).
“Student learning” is defined by SACSCOC as changes in students’ knowledge, skills, behaviors, or values.
The QEP is an opportunity for Forsyth Tech to enhance overall quality and effectiveness by focusing on an issue we consider important to the learning experience of our students. Our goal was to develop a well-defined topic that is supported by the entire Forsyth Tech community (faculty, staff, students, and administration).
The selected QEP topic is “Course to Career”. The primary focus of the QEP is to help students get on the right path and stay on that path until they reach their academic goal. This work includes helping students to identify the career track that fits their goals earlier in their academic program, stay connected with engagement points throughout their journey, embed career competencies adapted from NACE throughout the educational journey, and build a connection with a faculty mentor within their chosen program of study to assist with career connections.
The QEP is a comprehensive plan that will impact a significant portion of our students. The goal is to positively impact most if not all members of the Forsyth Tech community so that all programs will be involved. We encourage everyone to be an active participant in the process and take advantage of the many opportunities to join this major transformative initiative.
Over the course of our QEP implementation, you will see this initiative take form in many ways:
- Career Exploration Prior to Registration
- Career and Academic Advising with Eye Toward Career Outcomes
- New Career Planning Software to Support Career Services
- Decreasing Staff to Student Ratio in Career Services to Enhance Student Support
- Embedding Career Content in Courses Adapted from NACE Career Competencies
- Enhanced Experiential Learning Opportunities
- Faculty Mentoring
- Student Workshops
- Faculty and Staff Professional Development
