What You’ll Learn
This Forsyth Tech Community College Part 65 Accelerated Prep Program is designed to prepare students for the FAA Part 65 General, Airframe, and Powerplant ORAL AND PRACTICAL EXAMS ONLY. Students enrolled in the program will experience an active learning environment that combines textbook reading, lectures, group discussions and hands-on interactive aircraft projects to prepare for the FAA oral and practical exams.
Prospective Students
This course was designed for aviation mechanics with an approved FAA Form 8610-2, Airman Certificate and/or Rating Application. Individuals that have passed or are in the process of preparing for their written exams and require assistance preparing for their FAA oral and practical exams.

General: AVI – 3011
This course introduces general subjects related to all aspects of aircraft maintenance. Topics include mechanic privileges/limitations; math and physics; basic electricity; aircraft drawings; maintenance forms; fluid lines/fittings; weight and balance; corrosion control; and ground operations.

Airframe: AVI-3012
This course covers airframe structures, systems, and components with an emphasis on the different types of aircraft construction and repair methods. Areas of study include aircraft non-metallic (composite), sheet metal, welding; communication and navigation systems; hydraulic, pneumatic, landing gear, position, warning, and fuel systems; assembly and rigging; airframe inspection; fire protection, and flight line servicing.

Powerplant: AVI-3010
This powerplant series covers theoretical and practical aspects of the two major types of aircraft propulsion systems, piston and jet engines. Engine instruments, fire protection, electrical, lubrication, fuel, ignition, starting, and fuel metering systems; auxiliary power units; propellers; unducted fans; induction, airflow, cooling, exhaust, and reverser systems. The course culminates with engine inspections.
