Course Description
Human Resource Development (HRD) is a dynamic and vital workforce development program that serves as a pathway for proven economic, social, and educational success. Hence, the purpose of the HRD program is to educate and train individuals in transition for success in the workplace.
The HRD program provides assessment services, employability training, technology awareness training, and career exploration courses. These courses are fee-waived for anyone who is unemployed, retired, underemployed, or has a pending layoff.
Course Details
HRD courses are FREE to anyone that is unemployed, retired, or has a layoff pending, or is underemployed meeting the following income criteria

- 1 day – 4 hours
- $70.00 (fee waived if you qualify for HRD Waiver)
This four-hour course provides students with an opportunity to develop interest, competencies, knowledge, attitudes, and readiness as it relates to career, employment, and/or educational goals in the electrical line work industry. This course is a pre-requisite to registering for the full Electrical Line Worker Program. This course is free to anyone that is unemployed, underemployed, retired, or has a layoff pending.
- Blended (First 5 classes in person & second 5 classes via Zoom)
- 5 Weeks – 2x per week – 3 hours each (30 total)
- Evening and Daytime Classes Available
- $125 (fee waived if you qualify for HRD Waiver)

This 30-hour course covers basic computer skills, interviewing techniques, communication skills, and more. This is a blended course with the first half of the course in person and the second half online. By completing the course students become eligible to purchase a refurbished laptop for just $30. This course is part of a grant partnership with WinstonNet, Forsyth Public Library, and United Way. To qualify for course admission, you must meet the following criteria: live in Forsyth or Stokes County, be unemployed or meet income criteria, not have a working computer at home, and be at least 18 years old. This course is free to anyone that is unemployed, underemployed, retired, or has a layoff pending.

This 2-hour course is for bilingual students (Spanish/English) interested in helping others by becoming interpreters in the health and human services industry. This course will give students an idea of the expectations and what it takes to be successful in a career in the Interpreting for Health and Human Services field as well as how to be successful as a student in the program. This course is required prior to beginning the full Interpreting in Health and Human Services program. Students must be bilingually literate. This course is free to anyone that is unemployed, underemployed, retired, or has a layoff pending.

This 12-hour course will assist in preparing students for employment. Students will receive assistance in exploring potential professional career pathways, job search and interview skills, and learn communication skills to prepare for workplace success. This course is free to anyone that is unemployed, underemployed, retired, or has a layoff pending.

This course gives students an opportunity to explore the possibilities and keys to success in a logistics career. Students will gain an overview of the field and many careers available within the industry as well as helpful employability skills to make them successful students and interns in the full 12-week logistics program. This Intro to Logistics is a prerequisite to enter the full CE Logistics program which includes forklift training leading to an Operator’s Permit, logistics and distribution management skills training including warehouse operation, logistics software, and an 80-hour internship with a local employer. Students will be equipped with practical skills for employment and opportunities for further education. This program is a collaboration between Forsyth Tech, Goodwill Industries, and Second Harvest Food Bank. This course is free to anyone that is unemployed, underemployed, retired, or has a layoff pending.

This course is open as needed to job seekers. In this lab students can receive resume assistance, interview preparation, job search guidance, career exploration, AI in the job search training, LinkedIn training, networking basics, and more. Students may enroll at any time and come as they are able to receive the assistance needed. This course is free to anyone that is unemployed, underemployed, retired, or has a layoff pending.

- $70 (fee waived if you qualify for HRD Waiver)
This course will provide students with an overview of the insurance industry, types of positions available, as well as skills needed to succeed in this field. This course is a prerequisite to participate in our continuing education Insurance Prelicensure program. The program prepares students with all required coursework to qualify to take the state insurance licensure exams in the three areas of Life (20 course hours), Accident/Health/Sickness (20 course hours), and Medicare Supplement/Long Term Care (10 course hours). This program is in partnership between Forsyth Tech, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and Goodwill Northwest NC. Full scholarship opportunities are available for minorities and women that cover all course costs, licensure fees, testing fees involved with licensure in the three subject areas through funding provided by BCBSNC. This course is free to anyone that is unemployed, underemployed, retired, or has a layoff pending.

This class provides students with information about educational and career pathways as well as a chance to explore workplace norms and expectations. Participation in this class will give students the opportunity to complete a career assessment, explore wages, learn about the educational pathways available to you, and gain valuable employability skills. This is an excellent opportunity to engage with instructors to prepare for new opportunities! This course is free to anyone that is unemployed, underemployed, retired, or has a layoff pending.

- Six Weeks – 2 nights per week – 3 hours each
- $125 (fee waived if you qualify for HRD Waiver)
This course will introduce students to clerical skills including keyboarding and an introduction to Microsoft Word and Excel. Students will learn important components of the job search, explore personal motivation and empowerment, workplace skills to succeed, and office communication essentials. This course is especially helpful for anyone transitioning from a non-clerical workplace to clerical work in an office environment. This course is free to anyone that is unemployed, underemployed, retired, or has a layoff pending.
