Work-Based Learning Student Internship Program
Partner with Forsyth Tech
Businesses, government, and public and private agencies that host qualified student workers benefit from more than their contribution–they also have the advantage of early access to students who will be entering the workforce. Most employers find partnering with Forsyth Tech on work-based learning (WBL) makes the recruiting process more efficient.
WBL also allows employers to partner with Forsyth Tech to improve the quality and relevance of our programs, and thus the caliber of the employees we train.
Contact UsAfter a record number of student nominations from faculty, the 2024 Work-Based Learning Student of the Year is Antonia Mussen. Antonia worked as a student intern at Path of Hope during fall 2023 and spring 2024 semesters. Her instructor, Kristin Cline notes that Antonia sets a standard that inspires everyone around her. Her employer recognizes Antonia’s compassion in being instrumental to making her clients feel comfortable. Upon her graduation this May, she was offered a permanent position with her internship site.
“Forsyth Tech students are ready to start on day one. I’ve found them to be motivated, capable and workforce-ready.”
Nikki Murphy, Siemens Energy Inc.
How it Works
In order to partner with Forsyth Tech and host a WBL student intern, you must be willing to provide a student the opportunity to learn through the work they will do. If you are a new site, we’ll visit your business before the semester begins. During the semester you host a WBL student intern, we’ll make a site visit to see how things are going. We’ll also ask that a supervisor approve hours the student logs as well as complete a final evaluation.
Requirements
Prior to hosting a WBL student, you’ll need to:
- upload a job description in our Symplicity Career Hub so that eligible students may apply for your review;
- have someone with the necessary subject matter expertise available to supervise the student; and
- work with us to develop performance goals for your WBL student intern.

Timing
Forsyth Tech students participate in WBL during our fall (August through December), spring (January through May), and summer (May through July) semesters. The WBL office works with potential WBL students during the months leading up to the semester on resumé and interview skills. Employer partners are encouraged to post available student internships in Symplicity Career Hub early to ensure adequate time to review candidates and complete onboarding processes prior to the semester start.
