Why should you become a Global Scholar of Distinction?
There are many reasons to participate in this program! Some benefits include:
- You’ll receive a certificate from World View at UNC Chapel Hill upon completion
- There will be special recognition as a “Scholar of Global Distinction” at graduation
- You’ll be noted as “graduated with global distinction” on your official transcript
- You’ll wear a special stole at graduation
- Benefit from a greater understanding of the global relevance of your education
- You’ll complete a comprehensive e-portfolio highlighting your experience and accomplishments that can be shared on your college transfer application and with potential employers
Why become a Global Scholar of Distinction?
The Global Scholar of Distinction Program is a partnership between UNC Chapel Hill and North Carolina community colleges and is designed to equip you with the global competencies and skills you need for the 21st century workforce. This program will help prepare you for a world where virtually everything—the economy, culture, politics, business— is global in scope. Participation in this program will allow you to engage in discussions and be exposed to experiences that will help you see how you fit in an interconnected world.
How can you become a Global Scholar of Distinction?
The program consists of four components:
- Complete at least 15 credit hours of globally intensive courses. Most scholars take more!
- Participate in 8 international activities and dialogues such as: speakers, films, performances. About two per semester will keep you on track.
- Gain global experience through 30 hours of participation in either study abroad or a domestic intercultural experience. We have advisors to help you find the right fit!
- Create an e-portfolio using WIX to track your progress through the program and as an option, give capstone presentation related to your global learning.
