Program Goals and Minimum Expectations
The goal of the Forsyth Tech EMS Programs is to prepare Paramedics who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.
A Paramedic is an allied health professional whose primary focus is to provide advanced emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Paramedics function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Paramedics perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Paramedic is a link from the scene into the health care system.
The Forsyth Tech Paramedic Academy is an intensive 10–12-month program designed to rigorously prepare students for a career as a paramedic. This challenging program combines comprehensive classroom instruction with hands-on clinical experience, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped to handle the demands of emergency medical services.
Paramedics are trained to perform lifesaving measures that exceed the scope of EMTs and Advanced EMTs, qualifying them to execute more advanced procedures. These include administering injections, starting intravenous lines (IVs), and employing advanced airway management devices to support breathing. Paramedics are skilled in intubation, Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI), cricothyrotomy, needle decompression, and intraosseous (IO) access. They are also proficient in controlling major hemorrhages, cardiac monitoring, STEMI recognition, and administering advanced medications.
Our curriculum covers these advanced medical procedures, patient assessment, emergency response techniques, and leadership skills, providing a robust foundation for future paramedics. The paramedic program includes simulation-based training, real-world clinical rotations, and access to experienced instructors who bring a wealth of practical knowledge to the classroom.
Graduates of our program are well-prepared to excel in the fast-paced and rewarding field of paramedicine, ready to respond to emergencies with confidence and competence.
Join us to gain the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to become a highly skilled paramedic.
We have classes to fit all needs from days, nights, and weekends.
