What You’ll Learn
The Health Information Technology program provides online interactive instruction with AHIMA virtual labs, assessment, and professional practice experience at approved healthcare facilities to obtain the skills needed to be successful in the Health Information (HI) profession. The HIT curriculum covers:
- Revenue cycle management: determine diagnoses and procedure codes to support billing within revenue cycle processes.
- Data management: perform healthcare data collection, analysis, presentation and reporting utilizing health information databases and technology.
- Utilize technologies for health information management functions with an understanding of emerging consumer engagement technologies, such as telehealth, patient portals and social media.
- Develop strong medical terminology, anatomy, and pathology knowledge to communicate in professional healthcare settings.
- Enhance in-demand transferable skills, or soft skills, in critical thinking, digital fluency, information literacy, communication, diversity and teamwork, ethics, leadership and professional responsibility.
