What You’ll Learn
An EMT provides basic emergency care and transport for critical patients. They have the necessary skills and knowledge and use standard ambulance equipment. EMTs work under medical supervision and connect emergency scenes to healthcare services. Standards for EMTs have been updated over the years, with the latest revision in 2023.
In this program you will learn Airway Management, Patient Assessment, Trauma Emergencies, Cardiac Care and AED Use, Special Patient Populations, Basic stabilization of injuries, and administration of basic medications.

Program Goals and Minimum Expectations
The goal of the Forsyth Tech EMS Programs is to prepare EMTs who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.
The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Emergency Medical Services Professions Essentials/Standards initially adopted in 1978; revised in 1989, 1999, 2005, 2015, 2023. CAAHEP-Template 2021 3 Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Emergency Medical Technician is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.

Entry-level pay is $16-20/hour, with competitive benefits packages.
