Auto Safety and OBD II
If you are, or wish to be an auto technician, you may want to be certified. As a certified auto technician, you will be able to conduct the NC State required auto safety and On Board Diagnostics II (OBD II) inspections. All vehicles, regardless of year of manufacture, must have an annual safety inspection and vehicles newer than 1995, must also have an annual OBD II inspection. Forsyth Tech offers both of these 8-hour courses. The courses can each be completed in one 8-hour day or two 4-hour evenings. Each course requires a separate registration fee.
After completing each of the required courses and passing the state exam given in the class, you will be certified to do safety and OBD II inspections.
The local DMV will do a background check before the certificate becomes official. You should check with the local DMV at 336.767.8808, if you are concerned with anything in your background that could void this certification.
Please Note: The DMV requires that the LT-310 Form be signed by both the technician and the owner, partner or an officer of the employing station. If the LT-310 is not signed by both parties at the time of class, this form will need to be completed and mailed back to Forsyth Tech (name/address information given at class) before it can be submitted to the DMV.
Students taking Auto Safety Inspection and OBD II who are not employed by a station can still take the classes. The LT-310 form will be held by the DMV until a second form is submitted by the employing station.
