Enroll in Art ClassesJoin the Stokes County Barn Quilt movement! Create your own beautiful and bold design–no sewing skills required.
Learn the basic techniques of drawing and gain the skills and confidence to create your own works of art. More experienced artists will gain a greater confidence in their abilities and deepen their artistic perception.
Drawing Beginning IntermediateThe key to creating beautiful and accurate portraits is understanding the underlying construction and planes of the head. You will gain a greater understanding of facial features and their placement, helping achieve a better likeness.
Drawing PortraitsThis hands-on class explores various mixed media art techniques from printmaking to collage, working with found materials, hand stitching, and other art making practices. You’ll learn to combine techniques and work towards a final project.
Come enjoy the versatility of acrylics and learn elements of art such as color theory, value, and composition. Through demonstrations, class exercises, and individual painting time you will develop acrylic-specific painting techniques.
Painting: AcrylicExplore this exciting medium and study the styles of the master oil painters. You will work from photos and nature while learning foundational elements such as color mixing, application and brush techniques.
Paint Oil (All levels)Learn watercolor techniques and the foundational elements of art–from paint application to color theory and composition–while working on personal or guided art projects. (Note: There are two Painting Watercolor classes offered in Spring 2025. Intermediate Level: scheduled for January. Beginning Level: scheduled for March)
Painting WatercolorLearn how to skillfully use your camera to take beautiful photos.
This course is an introduction to the basics of digital photography. Learn about different types of digital cameras and become familiar with basic terminology and camera settings. Students will also explore the artistic side of composition in photography. The end result will be a deeper understanding of how to confidently use your camera to capture better pictures. Note: It is highly recommended that students bring their digital camera to class along with a notebook and pen or pencil. However, a student who does not yet own a camera will still learn a great deal and it will even help to make a better decision about which camera to consider purchasing.

What kind of photographer are you?
This course is designed to teach the novice photographer to become a more advanced shooter. Topics covered include: equipment use, composition, lighting, flash, sports, portraits, and landscape photography. Advanced digital manipulation techniques will also be covered using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. This class is divided into two parts, a classroom session held Wednesday evenings and an off campus shooting session held Saturday mornings. Prerequisite: This course is open to all ability levels Please note: – participant MUST have DSLR or mirrorless Camera with the capability for manual control – some experience using a computer is required.

Explore language classesGet an insider’s view on French language and culture! Taught by an experienced college professor who lived and worked in Paris for thirty years, the class will emphasize pronunciation, vocabulary and reading skills, plus some basic grammar.
French Beginner/IntermediatePush your language skills to the next level and prepare for an upcoming trip–this course will help you gain a deeper understanding of the French language, both written and verbal.
French: ConversationalDesigned as both an introduction to the Italian language and to help those planning to travel to Italy, this 8-week course will cover pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary useful for visiting major destinations of interest.
Italian for TravelersLearn finger spelling while building basic vocabulary and conversation signs. The goals for this class are to become familiar with ASL and gain an understanding of the deaf world.
Sign Language IntroExpand your vocabulary, finger spelling, and knowledge of conversational signs. The goals for this class are to grow your confidence and language abilities, and gain a deeper understanding of the Deaf Culture.
Sign Language: IntermediateGain an introduction to Spanish Language and culture from instructors who have lived in Latin America Countries for years. This class will emphasize pronunciation, vocabulary and reading skills, as well as basic grammar.
Spanish 1Build on existing vocabulary, grammar and reading skills while still learning about the culture and current trends in Latin American countries. Students will also gain basic conversation skills.
Spanish 2In this advanced course, students will expand on foundational skills from Spanish 1 and 2. You’ll learn vocabulary and conversation skills and review the rules of Spanish pronunciation, spelling and grammar, while expanding your understanding of Spanish-speaking countries and cultures.
