Phlebotomy
Why study phlebotomy?
Studying phlebotomy involves learning the skills necessary to safely and effectively draw blood from patients for diagnostic and medical purposes. This may include learning about venipuncture, blood collection techniques, infection control and patient communication. Phlebotomists work in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and laboratories. Certification and licensure requirements vary by state, but many phlebotomy programs offer certification options upon completion of coursework and clinical hours.
What You’ll Learn to Become a Certified Phlebotomist at Forsyth Tech
Forsyth Tech values hands-on experience and practical knowledge, so if you would like to earn your certification with us, you need to be comfortable sticking and being stuck with needles; this is called venipuncture.
You will also learn other critical aspects of a phlebotomist’s job, including maintenance of equipment used in obtaining blood specimens, patient communication skills, the selection of venipuncture sites, the care of blood specimens and the entry of the testing process into the computer.
